Going officeless
We’re ditching the office. That’s right. No more downtown address, no more parking nightmares, no more needless expenses.
Ever since Shift Media opened 3 years ago (then, Makeshift Multimedia), we’ve felt it necessary to maintain office space, despite the fact that we work most of our hours from home. I guess we always felt that having an actual office and business address would make us appear more ‘professional’ to clients. Sadly, this is a myth. We almost never get walk-in clients and most client meetings take place at the client’s office, not ours.
Rent, insurance, equipment, security, etc. all cost a lot of money. Not to mention, phone and internet service for a business account is nearly double what you would pay for residential. Why bother paying double when we have fully-fledged home office setups anyway?
We’ve done a good job at simplifying our work process, automating repetitive tasks, and putting more energy back where it really counts: software development. Going officelss is just another step in that direction.
So, rest assured—we’re not closing shop, we’re just trimming down the fat.
